Olney is a good place for walking, browsing, eating and drinking. Surrounded by meadowland and the Ouse valley, country walks are a real treat. Walk along the wide High Street and admire the many fine properties, browse the many interesting shops and visit the beautiful, medieval parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul.

Olney is a great town for shopping but you won't find any High Street names here. Independent specialist shops surround the market place and the High Street and can also be found down many courtyards. You will find art galleries, craft shops, antiques, furniture, designer clothing, gifts and oriental rugs.

Every Thursday is market day when Olney bustles with activity. This traditional market held on the market place attracts locals and visitors alike. The Cowper & Newton Museum is housed in a magnificent Georgian Town House. Dedicated to the work of poet William Cowper and curate John Newton, famous for the collaborative work of Olney hymns, Cowper's former home gives an insight into the early 18th century life. Olney's pancake race which takes place every Shrove Tuesday attracts visitors and TV crews from all over the world. A Victorian Christmas market, held on the 1st Sunday in December and the town's Summer floral fiesta week are popular events held every year.
